Times have changed and whether we (teachers) like it or not, students are technology natives now. This means that the primary source of information must be technology based to give them a meaningful, effective education. I have worked with a lot of teachers, most of which say "great, glad it works for you!" and go off on their merry way. My favorite subject, though, is a dear friend that was my guinea pig throughout my masters process for all the things I was learning. She was reluctant, to say the least, and to this day still argues and doubts what I give her to use. Despite the reluctance, however, she has embraced technology and welcomed it into her language arts classroom. Her students are among the first in our building to use our handheld response devices, and she is now teaching others how to use and integrate various assessment tools we are using. BRAVO, KELLY!!!
Change is painful, especially if you have been doing the same thing effectively for 15, 20 or 30 years. The time has come, however, for educational leaders to move forward into the 21st century and offer students the technologically immersive educational experiences they deserve.
