So I had to steal a line from a Christmas song to express my feelings for the "sprint to the finish line". Most teacher hate this time of year. It's cold, dreary, and worst of all, standardized testing season. While these things are true, it's also (almost) spring training time (GO REDS), indoor workout time (I coach middle school baseball) and best of all, cool projects in computer class time. While I think most of my stuff is pretty cool, some of the kids beg to differ. They did enjoy the project we just finished, which is a comparison of the cost various consumable (useable) liquids. I'm publishing this as a web quest and will add the link once I get it done. This project makes them think twice before they complain about the cost of gas.
- My fifth graders get to delve into the world of research, and learn all they care to learn about a career of their choice. After the produce a standard research paper (note cards, outline, bibliography, etc.) they get to play "tic tac toe" and pick three mini projects to present their information.
- The sixth graders get to do the career research to, but they get to create a color newsletter, a prezi & build a "wax museum" exhibit of their career. This is a fun project, one they look forward to every spring.
Sixth grade is heading into their mythology unity. They get to create a newspaper, complete with every time of journalistic writing, including a comic strip. They also get to make a "Fakebook" page for a mythological character.
I will be posting their work for all to see . I LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!
