I stumbled on a good page last year, classtools.net. While it has a lot of really interesting tools, the one that intrigued me most is Fakebook. This is a faux Facebook site that allows students to create "Facebook" pages for anything, any topic. The site isn't live, there is password protection for editing & the only way it is seen is by link to the page, the perfect way to incorporate social media into the classroom. My sixth grade students created mythology pages for gods & goddesses, but the sky's the limit! Kids can create sites for characters, authors, settings (think way outside the box) inanimate objects. They can use it for math (sites for geometric shapes...who would they friend & what would the conversation be like), science (elements, forms of mater, etc), the uses are endless! From looking at various sites already created, most teachers use it for LA applications, but it's applications are truly endless. ENJOY!!
